American Family Field, previously known as Miller Park, is located right outside of downtown Milwaukee. It opened in 2001 and has North America’s only fan-shaped convertible roof. It was also one of Wisconsin’s largest construction projects, built with $290 million of public funds.
American Family Field is accessible via public transportation using the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS), which operates every 30 minutes starting two hours before game time. You can also park in the numerous lots outside of the ballpark, starting at just $12.
They had a few vegetarians options available, including baked potatoes, seasoned fries, pretzels, veggie dogs, and the Beyond Burger. I had the seasoned fires, which were a little too seasoned but still good. I also had a Redd’s Apple Ale, which was great.
The atmosphere at the ballpark was fun, and as the name states, family friendly. After every home run and win, the mascot Bernie Brewer goes down a slide above the left field seats. Another fan favorite is the Sausage Race that occurs in the middle of the 6th inning each game. Fans attending games are also able to visit the Selig Experience, an exhibit inside the ballpark honoring former Brewers owner and retired MLB commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig.
The ballpark wasn’t sold out, but the Brewers fans were loud and into the game. Around the 6th and 7th innings, fans began to leave early due to the Brewers being down by multiple runs. The team is headed to the postseason this year, so I’d love to see what the ballpark is like in a postseason game.
American Family Field is a fun ballpark to attend and I would visit again. The parking was cheap, and lots of people were tailgating ahead of the game. Bernie Brewer’s slide and the Sausage Race are some great additions to any ballpark experience. I would definitely recommend visiting the ballpark if you’re in town.
